Rules: One player per team.
The 2024/25 Bundesliga season has concluded and with it some very contrasting fortunes for different teams and players — so now is the perfect time to reflect on it.
Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga, Eintracht Frankfurt made it into the Champions League and Mainz 05 made it into the Conference League, but VfL Bochum was finally relegated, Borussia Dortmund struggled terribly for the majority of the season and TSG Hoffenheim, despite all their resources, somehow nearly got relegated.
Considering the contrasting fortunes of all 18 teams and the respective player performances on those teams, it is a very common and popular practice to evaluate those performances and pick out a team of the season. But these teams are usually dominated by the best teams in the league, which makes it a little boring.
A more interesting thought experiment is this: Make a team of the season — but with only one player per team. Which teams won’t make the cut at all? (You can also make a bench of seven).
