‘Big surprise’: Roy Keane says Tottenham did something that really shocked him last night

Tottenham Hotspur, somehow, have now had perhaps their best season in a generation.

Indeed, in winning the Europa League, Tottenham have won some silverware and qualified for the Champions League, eclipsing the accomplishments of any season over the past two decades.

Spurs beat Manchester United 1-0 on Wednesday, and, heading into the game, Tottenham weren’t fancied to win.

Indeed, Manchester United were tipped to beat Spurs, and, even after the game, Roy Keane said he was shocked by this result.

Speaking on CBS, Keane shared his verdict on this game, and he says that it was a big surprise that Tottenham managed to win this game, especially after playing so poorly as of late.

Roy Keane shocked by Tottenham win vs Manchester United

Keane shared his verdict on Spurs getting over the line.

The pundit says that he was really surprised by Tottenham’s performance and the result here, claiming that Spurs completely proved him wrong in Bilbao.

“The big surprise was still Tottenham the way they’ve been playing over the last few months, that they would get over the line in a big game, but they did, they proved us all wrong,” Keane said.

Ange Postecoglou’s second-season trophy wins

A long-running story heading into this game was the fact that Ange Postecoglou vowed months ago that he always wins trophies in his second season at a club.

The Australian made good on his word, and now, that remarkable record has continued.

Ange Postecoglou’s clubs Trophy won in second season
South Melbourne NSL title
Brisbane Roar A-League title
Yokohama Marinos J-League title
Celtic Domestic treble
Tottenham Europa League

Of course, there’s now a big question as to whether or not Postecoglou will stay in his job.

Postecoglou was likely to be sacked regardless of the result, according to some. However, now that Spurs are in this situation, Daniel Levy’s decision isn’t quite so simple.

Does Levy have the right to sack a manager who has just delivered a major trophy and Champions League football? Well, after finishing 17th this season, there’s a case to be made that Postecoglou should go regardless of what happened at San Mames on Wednesday evening.
