The Bayern Munich boys have a busy summer ahead…

Seven Bayern Munich affiliated players are part of Julian Nagelsmann’s German national team call-up list for the UEFA Nations League FInal Four — Alexander Nübel (goalkeeper, currently on loan with VfB Stuttgart), Joshua Kimmich (right-back), Tom Bischof (central midfielder, will complete transfer from Hoffenheim to Bayern Munich in June), Leon Goretzka (central midfielder), Serge Gnabry (attacker), Aleksandar Pavlović (central midfielder), and Leroy Sané (attacker)

In addition, two players who Bayern Munich has been linked closely with for the upcoming summer transfer window are also included as well — Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz (attacking midfielder) and Jonathan Tah (center-back):

Bischof could be considered somewhat of a surprise, despite his excellent season for Hoffenheim. In addition, Nübel, Goretzka, Pavlović, Gnabry, and Sané were not exactly certainties to be called either after seasons filled with peaks and valleys.

Regardless, Bayern Munich is well-represented.

Perhaps the biggest surprise on the roster is FC Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, who has only played two games since mid-September due to a major patellar tendon rupture. It appears that Ter Stegen’s recent appearances for FC Barcelona on May 3rd and May 18th were enough to convince Nagelsmann.

Otherwise, Nagelsmann used the maximum number of 26 for his roster and appears to have attempted to take as many positionally-versatile players as possible to help with depth and tactical flexibility.

For reference, here is the original call-up list from March:

Several key figures from previous call-ups are unable to play due to injury. Here is a brief list of those players:

Attack

  • Tim Kleindienst, Borussia Mönchengladbach (injury)
  • Kai Havertz, Arsenal FC (just coming back from an injury)
  • Jamal Musiala, Bayern Munich (club asked for him to be left out as he recovers)

Defense

At an early glance, it appears that Mainz 05 striker Jonathan Burkardt and Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt are the most surprising players left out.
