Chelsea have identified centre-back as an area of their team that needs reinforcing.
And, whilst they have a long-standing interest in Marc Guehi, who has just captained Crystal Palace to FA Cup final success, Everton’s Jarrod Braithwaite is another name on their shortlist.
Branthwaite is wanted by several clubs, including Manchester United, but Everton do not want to lose one of their prized assets and have been trying to convince him to sign a new deal with the club.
Chelsea, though, are hoping to be able to tempt the England under-21 international with the promise of European football next season and their case will be strengthened if they qualify for the Champions League.
They go to Nottingham Forest for the final game of the season with their fate in their own hands, but know they will need to win away from London for the first time since December.
