Fernandez played the entirety of Chelsea’s most recent match on Friday night, when a second-half Marc Cucurella goal was enough to beat Manchester United in the Premier League.

The West London club are still in with a chance of making the Champions League next season, needing to finish inside the top five of the English top flight.

Enzo Maresca‘s European hopefuls make the trip to the City Ground on Sunday, when Nottingham Forest are the opponents on the final day of the Premier League term.

Chelsea have ‘no intention to sell’ Fernandez

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are looking to retain the services of their key first-team players this summer window.

The report states that the Blues have no intention to sell Fernandez, who joined the Stamford Bridge club for over £100m from Benfica in January 2023.

Maresca’s men are reluctant to part ways with Fernandez despite serious interest in the player, including from European giants Real Madrid.

It is understood that the 2022 World Cup winner is seen as a major part of the long-term project at Chelsea, who are looking to challenge for the Premier League crown once again.

Fernandez is also perceived as an important member of the dressing room at Stamford Bridge, providing plenty of big-game experience and leadership skills.

Chelsea’s Maresca project

After finishing 12th in the Premier League during the 2022-23 term, Chelsea are slowly climbing back to the summit of the English game under Maresca.

With a single fixture remaining of the top-flight term, the Blues are sitting in fifth spot, knowing that a win on the final day of the season would take them into the Champions League.

Starting 31 matches in the Premier League this season, Fernandez is a key man for Chelsea, who will do everything they can to retain his services this summer.
