Everton should re-sign ‘incredible’ striker after saving £30m on Armando Broja deal – opinion

Everton are on the search for a new striker to boost David Moyes’ squad this summer.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks set to leave Everton once his contract expires this summer, a bitter blow from Moyes’ perspective.

Fortunately, Beto’s form has improved dramatically under the Scot, a striker who will also be important heading into next season in the club’s new stadium.

But following reports from iNews that Everton won’t be activating their option to sign Armando Broja for £30m this summer, Moyes’ side might even need two new centre-forwards.

Both Calvert-Lewin and Broja departing would mean that Youssef Chermiti would be Beto’s sole back-up, a partnership which might not meet the club’s expectations across the season.

Everton should bring Moise Kean back to Merseyside

That being said, Everton should actually be considering an audacious move to bring Moise Kean back to the club.

Kean arrived at Everton as a teenager in 2019 and after 39 games for the club and four goals, he was then loaned to Paris Saint-Germain.

Put simply, Kean’s move to Goodison Park didn’t quite work out — the general consensus is that the switch to England came too early on in his career.

However, Kean has certainly now found his feet with Fiorentina in Italy and he’s been in pretty remarkable goalscoring form.

In 31 Serie A appearances, the 25-year-old has netted 18 goals and as a result of that form, Kean was offered to Arsenal in January.

Kean has prevailed as a pretty complete striker for manager Raffaele Palladino in Italy, and perhaps Everton should be testing the waters for his signature once again.

Speaking about Kean in a press conference last month, Palladino hailed his compatriot for his ‘incredible’ efforts.

Palladino said: “You know how much respect and trust I have in Moise Kean. We must thank him for what he’s doing.

“He’s having an incredible season, and his actions, like today’s goal, show true quality. I love that Moise always has the right mentality while scoring.

“He fits the team perfectly, energizing his teammates. But his goals are also a result of teamwork.”

Kean doesn’t regret his move to Everton

Of course, some Everton fans might be wondering if Kean would even be interested in a move back to Merseyside.

But when speaking in an interview with The Athletic in 2024, Kean made it clear that he had no ill feeling towards his old club, even though the move didn’t work out.

Kean said: “Out of all the experiences I’ve had, you won’t ever hear me say I had a bad one.

“I find positives in all of them. If I hadn’t spent that year at Everton, I wouldn’t have learned the things I did there. I was a bit unlucky. I went there expecting to play a bit more. I was 19.

“I joined from Juve and thought I was going to smash it. Unfortunately, it didn’t go like that. We went through three coaches that year and mentally… it was all new for me.

“I was in England, it was a new environment…”

And in a summer in which Everton want to re-sign Richarlison, perhaps it’s Kean they should be looking to bring back instead.
