Angelo Ogbonna has been released by Watford.

He was the only member of the Hornets’ first-team out of contract and will depart when his deal expires on June 30.

News of Ogbonna’s release came the day before he turned 37.

The 13-time Italy international arrived at Vicarage Road on a one-year deal last summer after he left West Ham.

Ogbonna went on to make just eight appearances for Watford.

Of those eight, six came in the Championship, five of which were starts. Ogbonna won three and lost three of the six league games.

He also started in the 4-1 loss to Fulham in the third round of the FA Cup as well as the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the third round of the League Cup.

Ogbonna was an unused substitute for nine Championship fixtures.

He also missed time in March after he underwent what then-Hornets boss Tom Cleverley described as a ‘minor medical procedure’.

Prior to his move to Vicarage Road, Ogbonna enjoyed a 249-game career with the Hammers across nine seasons.

He was involved in West Ham’s Conference League-winning squad, coming on late in the final which saw them beat Fiorentina 2-1.

Aside from a European trophy, Ogbonna was the Hammer of the Year runner-up for the 2019/20 season.

He finished his Irons career with 13 goals to his name and donned the captain’s armband on several occasions.

Along with Ogbonna, Watford also confirmed the departures of Vakoun Bayo and Yasser Larouci.

Bayo and Larouci joined the club on season-long loans from Udinese and Troyes respectively.

Larouci made 42 total appearances and featured as both a left-midfielder and left-back.

As for Bayo, he bagged ten goals from 42 appearances.

The Ivorian’s tally of ten goals made him the Hornets’ top scorer this season.
