Regardless of how Ange Postecoglou’s future pans out at Tottenham Hotspur, he can pat himself on the back for winning the Europa League after his Spurs side beat Manchester United 1-0 on Wednesday.

Gareth Bale called Postecoglou a Tottenham legend as he ended the Lilywhites supporters’ arduous 17-year wait to win a trophy — something the likes of world-class managers like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte failed to accomplish.

Postecoglou tweaked his tactics against Manchester United as Spurs uncharacteristically sat back for most of the contest and ground out a famous victory in Bilbao.

While Daniel Levy must be celebrating Tottenham’s historic triumph, he has a massive decision on his hands about whether to stick or twist with the former Celtic boss.

Ange Postecoglou has delivered on his remit of winning silverware in his second season in charge and now the decision-makers at Spurs have to determine whether they think he is the right man to continue leading their project.

David Ornstein says Ange Postecoglou wouldn’t be surprised if Tottenham sacked him

Alan Shearer expects Postecoglou to stay at Tottenham as the Newcastle United legend felt it did not seem Tottenham were ready to let him go after beating Manchester United to the Europa League trophy.

However, Ange Postecoglou could lose his job as the Spurs hierarchy have not been satisfied by the season his side have endured as a whole.

David Ornstein told Sky Sports News that Tottenham’s stance does not seem to have changed despite becoming Europa League champions and the 59-year-old would not be stunned to be given his marching orders: “The clear direction of travel, as far as Tottenham’s hierarchy goes has been to make a change this summer and it’ll be fascinating to see if they follow through with that, I think it’s most likely they will from an outside perspective but I think they’ve got a bit more food for thought now.”

“I think if they look at the evidence and that isn’t just results, performances and injuries, then there’s enormous room for improvement and they feel there’s a very good squad there, they’ve invested pretty heavily, it still needs some work on it and they need some good fortune with injuries. But it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s still a change there and it wouldn’t surprise Ange Postecoglou either.”

However, it seems that the Tottenham players are still playing for Ange Postecoglou, based on their spirited performance against Manchester United and some stars’ post-match comments.

One of them was Brennan Johnson, who claimed Postecoglou has “done his job” after promising to win a trophy in his second season and delivering.

The Welshman, who scored the game’s only goal, also thanked the Australian for believing in him.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the Europa League final, Ange Postecoglou admitted he would love to continue managing Tottenham after they defeated Manchester United as well.

Postecoglou confirmed: “I do [want to stay at Tottenham], I’ve said that, I don’t feel like I’ve completed the job yet, we’re still building but the moment I accepted the role, I had one thing in my head and that is to win something, more than anything else.”

“We’ve done that now so I want to build on it.”
