Tottenham won the Europa League on Wednesday evening, securing their first piece of silverware in almost two decades.
Spurs were victorious in Bilbao, sparking some joyous scenes across the Spanish city and into north London and beyond.
Tottenham weren’t fancied to win this game, but they overcame the odds and became champions.
It was an emotional win for Spurs against Manchester United, and speaking on his YouTube channel, Tom Barclay has shared some insight into the celebrations on Wednesday.
Heung-Min Son has been criticised this season, but he’s finally achieved his dream of winning a trophy with Spurs.
According to Barclay, Son was very emotional after the match, noting that the Korean was in tears after securing the Europa League with Tottenham.
Heung-Min Son was crying after Europa League win
Barclay shared what he saw Son doing after Spurs’ victory in Bilbao.
According to the journalist, the attacker was crying after this game.
There have been some calls for Son to be sold this summer, and if this is to be the end for the Spurs captain, he’s gone out on the highest of highs.
“I was sort of head down, having to rewrite a piece on United, but the emotions at the end, you know, I think I saw Sonny crying, I saw the joyous scenes throughout on the pitch and Ange looked proud as punch afterwards,” Barclay said.
Heung-Min Son can now be considered a Tottenham legend
Son was emotional after this game, and rightly so.
Indeed, Son has now secured his Tottenham legacy with a trophy, and he can now be considered a club legend.
Son, of course, was already a club legend in the eyes of many, but the man himself didn’t think he’d earned that title until he won a trophy.
“You also have to give something back to the club and the fans. I get so much love from Spurs fans which I really appreciate,” Son said, via The Standard.
“I still don’t think I am a legend of this club. I have said I want to win something with Spurs, then I want to be very happy to be called a legend. This is one thing I want to do.
“I joined Spurs to win a trophy and I hope we can make a special season.”
Now, Son has fulfilled his ambition of winning a trophy, forever writing himself in the club’s history books as the captain who finally ended Tottenham’s lengthy silverware drought.
