The former Liverpool defender has had a lot to say about Manchester United this season, but resorted to just a simple dig following their defeat to Tottenham.
It has been a torrid season for Ruben Amorim and Man United, made worse by their Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, handing them their first trophy for 17 years.
The criticism Ange Postecoglou has faced this season may quieten down slightly with this result, although the amount of pressure Amorim is under feels insurmountable.
Despite this, ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher wasted no time in taking a swipe at one of the Reds’ biggest rivals as he enjoyed watching on from afar.
Jamie Carragher makes Man United dig
Taking to X almost instantly after the full-time whistle, Carragher simply wrote: “Lads, it’s Man United,” a hilarious dig aimed towards former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
This comment refers back to a famous story told by Roy Keane about the Scottish manager, who famously motivated his players by telling them: “Lads, it’s Tottenham.”
This quick-witted comment came seconds after Man United’s defeat, with the Red Devils now losing to Spurs four times this season and failing to qualify for Europe for the first time since the 2014/15 season, significantly piling the pressure on Amorim.
Ruben Amorim’s future at Man United is uncertain
Manchester United’s decline since Sir Alex Ferguson departed has been evident for all to see, although Amorim believes that his job is safe despite managing the Red Devils to their worst Premier League season in their history.
Insisting that he will not quit if the club stick by him, Amorim’s aim for next season is clear, finishing in the top six.
This seems like an impossible task given performances this season and the money they have missed out on from the Europa League final loss, although stranger things have happened in football.
