Julian Alvarez has dropped a hint about his future amid speculation of a Premier League comeback this summer, with Liverpool continuously linked. It comes after the club president issued an update.
The ex-Manchester City forward has had a stellar year since his £82 million ($110 million) move to Atletico Madrid, netting 29 goals and dishing out six assists across all competitions for the Spanish side in the 2024/25 season.
Atleti has got its money’s worth from the striker, but it’s not the scenario Liverpool’s rivals would have wanted as it clearly felt the lack of attacking options in a season where the Premier League crown has made its way to Anfield. Despite bagging the domestic title, Darwin Nunez hasn’t quite hit the mark, prompting Arne Slot to look at various candidates, including Alvarez, to lead the line.
Spanish reporter Matias Palacio of El Chiringuito has indicated that both Liverpool and Arsenal are keen on the forward and has suggesting meetings will take place next week.
However, he warned that Atletico will only consider an offer higher than the one they paid for the striker last season.
The Argentine, however, seems to have already signalled his plans for the upcoming season, with a cryptic post on social media suggesting that his inaugural campaign in Spain might not be his last.
“The first season at home is coming to an end,” he shared on Instagram following his team’s wrap-up of their season last weekend. The term ‘first’ hints at the length of his tenure, considering he’s only a year into a six-year contract inked at the Wanda Metropolitano, while ‘home’ implies a deep sense of comfort.

The caption summed up with a heartfelt “Thank you for always being there and for making me feel like I belong from day one.”
Alvarez’s contentment at Atleti is plainly mutual, as evidenced by club president Enrique Cerezo who dismissed any notions of offloading their prized forward.
“Julian Alvarez is a player of Atletico de Madrid. He’s very happy here, he is our player and he will remain our player. He was raised at Atletico Madrid and he will die at Atletico Madrid,” he emphatically stated.
Yet, Nunez continues to be touted for a departure from Anfield in the not-so-distant future, and should that eventuate Liverpool will have to seek out a formidable substitute.
For now, Liverpool’s focus seems geared towards shoring up their backline, with expected incomings Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkuse and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.
In addition to defensive reinforcements, they’re keeping tabs on Florian Wirtz – an attacker with a unique flair – as he and his entourage deliberate on his next steps.
