Real Madrid have just one game left against Real Sociedad in the La Liga before the end of an inconsistent season that has left more doubts than certainties. Carlo Ancelotti is set to leave the Santiago Bernabeu bench this summer, with Xabi Alonso emerging as his replacement.

The Bayer Leverkusen coach, after a successful campaign in Germany, would be in charge of Los Blancos at the next FIFA Club World Cup 2025. In the meantime, the focus is on the clash with Real Sociedad in San Sebastian, a game that comes with the requirement to end with some dignity a year in which they have only managed the European Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup.

Last weekend offered some respite. A win against a Sevilla side brought three points with goals from Kylian Mbappé, who is aiming to be the league’s top scorer, and Jude Bellingham, who this time will be absent through suspension.

With a full infirmary and a squad full of absentees, Ancelotti will have to improvise. The absence of Alaba, Militao, Carvajal, Mendy, Rüdiger, Camavinga, Bellingham and Rodrygo means that a complete reshuffle is required. Despite this, the team will try to maintain their competitive level against an opponent that is not used to giving up easily at home.

4-4-1-1 Real Madrid Predicted Starting Lineup Against Real Sociedad:

Defense:

The backline will be mixture of urgency and adaptation. Lunin is set to be the first-choice goalkeeper, backed by an unusual defensive line. Fede Valverde, usually a midfielder, will be moved to right-back, covering Carvajal’s absence. Jacobo and Jesús Vallejo would form the centre-back pairing, two players with little continuity in recent months. On the left flank, Fran García will take responsibility for the absence of Mendy. The defence will be looking to keep their composure, although the lack of minutes together and improvisation can take its toll in a game like this one.

Midfield:

The midfield will not be without its adjustments. Lucas Vázquez could take up the right flank, bringing balance and experience to an area weakened by injuries. Aurelien Tchouameni will be the anchor, with the mission of sustaining the tactical structure and cutting off any attacking attempts from the opposition. Luka Modric, despite the accumulated wear and tear, will be the one to manage the rhythm from the centre, trying to connect lines in his final game for the Los Blacnos. Dani Ceballos will complete the midfield, probably providing mobility on the left. It will be a midfield that will be a mixture of experience and sacrifice, with less sparkle than usual.

Attack:

In attack, the creative role will fall to Arda Güler. The young Turkish talent will play behind the striker, trying to generate chances and exploit space with his vision. Up front, Kylian Mbappé will be the team’s main attacking threat. His pace and finishing could make a difference, even without the usual company of Rodrygo or Bellingham.

With few resources available, Ancelotti is relying on individual talent and the will of his players to close this stage with professionalism. Although their is nothing to play for in this game, the commitment of those who will take to the pitch will be key to leaving a positive image before the farewell.
