Preparations for next season have already begun for several teams in England. With the summer transfer window just around the corner, some clubs are looking to make strategic moves before the window officially kicks off.

Teams like Leeds United, who have just secured their return to the Premier League, are moving quickly. They are looking to strengthen key positions with experienced players. The pressure of competing in the elite demands firm decisions, and many teams are already setting concrete targets. In that context, Newcastle United could see a major departure without getting anything in return, and that is attracting attention.

Leeds United Want To Sign Calum Wilson From Newcastle United

Football Insider has reported that the Yorkshire club are considering a move for Callum Wilson at the end of his contract with the Magpies. The England striker, who has a long history in the Premier League, appears to have his days numbered at St James’ Park. After several years in the north, his prominence has diminished.

Injuries have dented his impact, but Leeds believe he can get back to his best. Daniel Farke is keen to add some more punch up front and sees Wilson as a viable option, especially without paying a transfer fee. His goalscoring record speaks for itself and he could bring a lot to the table if he remains available.

Newcastle have an important decision on their hands. Letting Wilson go without renewing him may be understandable from a physical and financial point of view. The player has spent too much time in the hospital, and that comes at a cost to any squad that aspires to compete in multiple competitions.

How Will It Affect The Magpies?

However, releasing him without even trying to raise some money or include him in a wider deal seems a poor move in terms of planning. Wilson, despite his age, still retains certain virtues that could be of value to teams with different goals than the Magpies. Selling him for a token sum or including him in a loan deal with an option to buy could benefit Newcastle more than simply letting him leave.

From another perspective, the club could focus on keeping Wilson as a secondary option, especially if there is no guarantee that they will sign another striker with his ability. His presence in the dressing room, knowledge of the environment and experience could help younger players such as Isak or any new attacking signings.

If he accepts a more limited role with a reduced salary, his continuity should not be a risk. But if there is no willingness on the player’s part to accept such a change in status, then it would be best to close the chapter in a clear way. In the end, Newcastle must take a firm stance: either extract something of value before Wilson’s departure or use his profile to improve from within. Letting him go without getting anything would be a missed opportunity in an era when every resource counts.
