Croatian soccer star Luka Modrić is leaving Real Madrid. He announced the news himself through his social media. “The moment has come—the moment I never wanted to arrive,” he wrote in an Instagram post alongside a photo of him kissing the club’s badge.
This Saturday will be his final game with the club he joined back in 2012. “That’s football, and in life, everything has a beginning and an end,” he added.
In his statement, Modrić said that playing for Real Madrid changed his life, both as a footballer and as a person. He also admitted that he never imagined everything that would happen when he first arrived. “I came with the dream of wearing the shirt of the best team in the world, and the ambition to achieve great things,” he said.
Over the past 13 years, Real Madrid has won six Champions League titles, six Club World Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, four La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, and five Spanish Super Cups.
“I feel proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras in the history of the greatest club in the world,” he concluded.
