Two teams that have already had their relegation to the Danish First Division confirmed will lock horns in the Danish Superliga on Saturday afternoon, with Lyngby Boldklub becoming Aalborg BK.
Disappointing campaigns have seen the pair both pick up 24 points from their 31 league matches, and the duo have been relegated to the second tier ahead of their meeting at Lyngby Stadium this weekend.
Match preview
Lyngby are two-time Danish champions, with their last title success coming in 1992, and they have spent the majority of their history operating in the top flight, so their relegation this term is a huge disappointment.
There is no getting away from the fact that it has been a tough campaign for Morten Karlsen‘s side, with the team only managing to pick up 24 points from 31 matches, which has left them in fifth spot in the Relegation Round.
Just four victories have been secured from their 31 matches, while they have the worst attacking record in the division, only finding the back of the net on 23 occasions, which has been the main source of their issues.
Indeed, defensively, the team have been relatively strong, conceding only 42 times, but their problems down the other end have played a major role in them being relegated from the top flight.
The Vikings will enter this match off the back of successive defeats, including a 5-1 reverse to SonderjyskE last time out, with their last victory proving to be a 2-0 success over section winners Silkeborg at the end of April.
Aab, meanwhile, will enter the contest off the back of a 3-2 reverse to Silkeborg, and they have now been beaten in five of their last six matches in the league during a difficult run.
Kristoffer Wichmann‘s team earned promotion back to the top flight courtesy of their second-place finish in the First Division last season, but they have been unable to consolidate at this level of football.
The Reds have a record of five wins, nine draws and 17 defeats from their 31 matches to collect 24 points, while they have conceded 64 times, which is the worst defensive record in the division.
Aab will be hoping to give their supporters something to cheer this weekend, and they are actually unbeaten against Saturday’s opponents since July 2019, which is a record that should hand them a great deal of confidence.
Team News
Lyngby will have to make a late check on the fitness of Mathias Hebo, with the midfielder carrying a muscular problem.
Rasmus Thelander will definitely be unavailable for selection on Saturday, though, with the defender out of the match through suspension due to the milestone yellow card that he picked up in the team’s last match.
Saevar Magnusson has come up with four league goals for the strugglers this season, and there will once again be a spot in the final third of the field for the 24-year-old.
As for Aab, Kasper Jorgensen is out of the match through suspension due to the milestone yellow card that he picked up in the team’s clash with Silkeborg last time out.
However, the visitors have not reported any injury concerns ahead of the match, so head coach Wichmann is set to have a strong squad to choose from this weekend.
Oumar Diakhite is likely to be the player to be introduced in a defensive area due to Kasper Jorgensen’s absence, but there will certainly be another spot through the middle for the experienced Nicklas Helenius.
Lyngby Boldklub possible starting lineup:
Risbjerg; Buur, Hamalainen, Lissens, Klassen; Fraulo, Langhoff, Hebo, Sandgrav; Jensen, Magnusson
Aalborg BK possible starting lineup:
Muller; Bruus, Diakhite, Kramer, Pudel, Jasson; M Jorgensen, Davidsen, Bomholt, Widell; Helenius
We say: Lyngby Boldklub 1-1 Aalborg BK
This is a difficult match to call, as both have struggled badly this season; the game is a free hit, with the pair already being relegated, but we are finding it very hard to select a winner and have therefore had to settle on a low-scoring draw.
