Report: Liverpool make contact over ‘very good’ attacking talent who Takumi Minamino said has ‘huge potential’

Liverpool are set for a busy summer on the transfer front and Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche is one of the players said to be in their sights.

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey recently confirmed that Liverpool could make up to five new signings this summer.

“Further up the pitch, the Reds will be looking for a new striker, and then a creative player – maybe a left-winger and an attacking midfielder,” said Bailey.

Akliouche is a creative player who largely plays on the right wing but can also feature on the left flank, at No. 10, and even as a striker or central midfielder.

French outlet L’Equipe has reported that Liverpool have made contact over Akliouche, who is valued at around €60million (£50million).

Akliouche plays alongside Takumi Minamino, who had a brief stint at Liverpool earlier this decade, and he has already given his verdict on the Reds target.

Takumi Minamino hails Liverpool target Maghnes Akliouche’s ‘huge potential’

Takumi Minamino, who made 30 appearances for Liverpool before joining Monaco in 2022, sang Akliouche’s praises back in December 2024.

He described the 23-year-old as the “best young player in the team” when he first came in, and said he had “huge potential”.

“When I arrived at the club, I noticed him straight away, he was the best young player in the team,” Minamino told the Monaco website, as per Onefootball.

“He has huge potential and he showed it last year against several teams. He is always humble, he is a good player but also a good person above all.

“I am sure he will have a good future so I am happy to be able to play with him.”

What Maghnes Akliouche could bring to Liverpool

Akliouche is closing in on 100 competitive appearances for Monaco and, from his 96 outings, he has registered 16 goals and 17 assists.

Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig sang the reported Liverpool target’s praises, calling him a “superb combination of a dribbler and creator”.

He also described Akliouche as “highly technical and creative” and “elegant on the ball with a silky touch”.

Monaco teammate Denis Zakaria previously said of Akliouche: “We see him progressing. He is a different player to the one from the start of last season.

“Before he was a bit of a ‘kid’ but he has matured. In his game, he often makes the right decisions. He is really a very good player.”

Akliouche looks like he’d be a great addition for a Liverpool side eager to challenge on multiple fronts next season.

However, Newcastle have also been linked with Akliouche, so Liverpool have to be mindful of competition from a fellow Premier League side.
