And on you loan…

Jonathan Asp Jensen could have sulked. He could have whined. Seen as one of the top talents of the Bayern Munich academy and having earned his senior team debut in the 2023/24 season, head coach Vincent Kompany still snubbed the attacking midfielder from the group of young players he brought to Seoul for the second part of pre-season. Instead, Asp Jensen returned to Bayern’s U-23 team, where he has put his head down and worked hard, emerging as the team’s most influential player in the 2024/25 season.

His reward for those efforts was a long term contract extension until 2028 and, according to reporter Nico Linner (and captured by @iMiaSanMia), the goal will be to keep that progress up with a loan to a more difficult league:

Jonathan Asp Jensen is set to leave Bayern on loan this summer. Grasshopper Zürich are considered a potential destination, but only if they stay up in the first division. Other Swiss and Austrian first division clubs as well as 2. Bundesliga clubs are also interested. Bayern will keep a close eye on Asp Jensen’s development as he’s considered one of Denmark’s brightest prospects.

BFW analysis

This follows an interesting trend of Bayern continuing to target loans to clubs in Austria and Switzerland. Hopefully, Asp Jensen’s loan will be strategically planned out beyond just being placed in one of those leagues, however. Certainly, one has to wonder how much benefit there would be in loaning a creative midfielder such as Asp Jensen to a team struggling against relegation like Zürich. A better destination than that must be found.
