Gary Neville has never really had much love for Liverpool.
The Manchester United legend recently admitted that the Merseysiders are the most successful club in England after watching them win their 20th league title.
However, despite that, Neville likes to aim a few digs at Liverpool every now and then – especially when Reds legend Jamie Carragher is around.
In an argument with each other recently, the topic of what Neville once said about Mohamed Salah came up.
Gary Neville can’t believe that Mohamed Salah decided to stay at Liverpool
Mohamed Salah is Liverpool’s best player.
The Egyptian has been unbelievable for the Reds since he joined them from AS Roma in 2017, but he took his game to a whole new level this season.
Salah has scored 33 goals and provided 23 assists in all competitions for Arne Slot’s side so far, and it won’t be a surprise at all if he adds to his tally on Sunday.
Those numbers above are hugely impressive on their own, but they become even better when you consider that Salah’s future was up in the air for most of this season.
Gary Neville was convinced that Salah would leave Liverpool – not just in 2025 but also ‘five years ago’, according to his mate, Carragher.
The Manchester United icon did not expect to see the Reds’ number 11 agree to extend his stay at Anfield.
“It’s a miracle that he has stayed at Liverpool,” Neville told Carragher on Sky Sports.
Liverpool fans need to understand one thing about Mohamed Salah
What Salah has done in the 2024/25 season for Liverpool is nothing short of exceptional.
The former Roma man, who was signed for just £34 million by Jurgen Klopp (Sky Sports), has been the best player in the Premier League this season by some distance, and he is the reason why the Reds won the title.
Now, Liverpool fans should understand that their Egyptian king is unlikely to have such a productive campaign again next term.
Even Arne Slot expects Salah’s numbers to go down over the next two seasons.
However, even if his figures drop down to 20 goals and 10 assists next term, it will still be a fantastic return.
