Liverpool must follow strict Premier League trophy rule after lifting it at Anfield

Liverpool will have to follow a strict rule after they lift the Premier League trophy on Sunday.

Arne Slot’s side will face FA Cup winners Crystal Palace on the Premier League’s final day on Sunday (May 25).

Anfield will be a sea of red, and both sets of fans will, no doubt, be basking in the glory of their recent success.

Palace had their day in the sun when they defeated Manchester City 1-0 in last Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley.

As for Liverpool, they wrapped up the title with a 5-1 victory against Spurs on April 27 but are yet to get their hands on the Premier League trophy.

Captain Virgil van Dijk, who will be presented with the trophy by ex-Liverpool defender Alan Hansen, will have the pleasure of lifting it aloft on Sunday, but the champions must follow strict Premier League rules.

According to the Premier League’s official website, “there are two Trophies which are identical and include an engraved base detailing past Premier League champions.

“During the season, one stays with the Premier League champions, while the other is used by the League.

“The champions must return their Trophy to the Premier League at least three weeks before their final league match of the season”.

How many medals will Liverpool get?

As per the Premier League’s website, “The champions are given 40 commemorative medals made of silver, which are 2.25in (5.7cm) in diameter.

“They can be distributed to the manager, players and officials, as the club see fit, as long as every player who has made at least five Premier League appearances during the title-winning season gets one.

“Additional medals may only be presented with the consent of the Premier League Board, and that will only be granted if more than 39 players have made at least five PL appearances during the campaign”.

Goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros, with just one appearance, is set to miss out on a medal, with Jayden Danns, Trey Nyoni, James McConnell, Tyler Morton, Harvey Davies, and Amara Nallo also ineligible due to them all failing to reach five league appearances.
