Jeremie Frimpong is set to join Liverpool and has joined the chorus of voices congratulating Ryan Gravenberch on his Premier League young player of the season award. The two Dutchmen will soon be teammates both internationally and at club level.
Frimpong has completed a medical ahead of becoming Arne Slot’s inaugural summer signing. The move, hastened by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s looming exit, was made possible due to a release clause in his contract with Bayer Leverkusen.
The anticipation of Frimpong’s arrival is sparking excitement at Liverpool as the summer transfer window approaches, with hopes high that he might be accompanied by Florian Wirtz.
Upon signing, Frimpong will join a burgeoning contingent of Dutch talent at Anfield, including manager Slot and his staff, skipper Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and not forgetting Gravenberch.
Gravenberch has had an exceptional title-winning season, transforming into a key defensive element for the team, culminating in being crowned the Premier League’s 2024/25 young player of the season.
“This season has been one to remember – and this award makes it even more special. I’m grateful to the coaches, teammates, and fans who made it all possible,” Gravenberch expressed his gratitude on Instagram following the accolade.
Frimpong received a show of support with the comment: “Ryan laaa [red heart emoji, trophy emoji].” Liverpool’s own stars, including Van Dijk and Gakpo, were among those sending their congratulations to the midfielder.
Intriguingly, several Dutch players from clubs all over Europe joined in the well-wishes. Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig dropped two red heart emojis, while Ajax’s Jorrel Hato echoed the sentiment.
Both Simons and Hato have found their names swirling in transfer rumours linked with a move to Anfield as the summer window approaches.
Gakpo, speaking about Frimpong last Monday, shared his enthusiasm for the influx of Dutch talent at Liverpool and across the Premier League.
“I’m very, very proud to see so many Dutch players here. We have a lot of Dutch players now in the Premier League. Everybody is doing good, so hopefully we can continue,” he remarked.

He noted that Brighton boasts three Dutch players, plus another on the bench, and it’s pleasant for them to catch up in England.
On the possibility of Frimpong joining, Gakpo teased, “Maybe [Frimpong is next], I don’t know yet, maybe you know more than me!”.
Describing Frimpong as part English and a great guy he knows well from the national team, Gakpo added, “He is another Dutch one, well ‘English’ as well you know? He’s a very good guy, and I know him very well from the national team, and a good player as well. So let’s see if he comes or not.”
