Liverpool have enjoyed a superb season, winning the Premier League title in Arne Slot’s maiden campaign at Anfield.

In addition, Liverpool have won the Premier League trophy with the bulk of the team from Jurgen Klopp’s last season at Anfield.

Only Federico Chiesa has arrived at Liverpool over the past 12 months, while Giorgi Mamardashvili was signed last year but is set to join this summer.

With that in mind, Liverpool have a lot more wiggle room to make numerous big signings this summer.

Now, reports have emerged which have led to some Liverpool fans believing they could be about to make the biggest signing in their history.

Liverpool fans think Florian Wirtz would be their biggest ever signing

On Friday evening, reports emerged claiming that Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Sacha Tavolieri took to X to report that Florian Wirtz is now “one step away” from joining Liverpool after having decided on a move to Anfield.

Wirtz is said to have personally informed the Bayern hierarchy of his decision.

Now, Liverpool are reportedly set to finalise an agreement with Leverkusen for around €150million (£126million).

Needless to say, Liverpool fans are absolutely buzzing.

“If we do get Wirtz it’s the biggest statement signing we’ve ever made,” one fan wrote on X.

Another fan said: “If – the biggest if you’ve ever seen – they get Wirtz over the line then it goes down as one of the biggest LFC transfers possibly ever? Huge huge.”

Florian Wirtz would be Liverpool’s biggest ever signing. Huge statement.

The excitement kept coming, with one fan saying: “Wirtz will be the biggest signing in Liverpool’s history.”

Another wrote: “Biggest LFC transfer in history is about to go down. Florian Wirtz. He’s the best 10 in the world. Worth every penny.”

I’m just utterly confused, this fee should be enough for Isak. Wirtz is obviously a ridiculous marquee signing. Probably the biggest ever in LFC prem history.

Another fan said: “There’s actually not many players in the market if any that I would rather sign than Wirtz.

“Seemed like a pipe dream a month ago. Would be our biggest signing in YEARS.”

Liverpool’s transfer plans this summer

Liverpool are already set to welcome Mamardashvili to Anfield this summer to bolster their goalkeeping ranks.

In addition, Liverpool have already agreed terms with Emmanuel Frimpong and Fabrizio Romano claims the Dutchman has already completed two parts of his medical.

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey recently confirmed that Liverpool are planning to make at least four signings, potentially five.

“Liverpool are going to have a huge summer, they are going to strike whilst the iron is hot,” Bailey exclusively told TBR Football earlier this month.

“Arne Slot knows what the squad needs, not a lot but there are areas they want to improve and Richard Hughes has done his work.

“In terms of their back line, Liverpool are looking to bring in a new left-back, a new centre-back, and maybe a right-back.

“Further up the pitch, the Reds will be looking for a new striker, and then this creative player – maybe LW and CAM.

“What’s also interesting is that Liverpool want more from their midfield.

“A new No. 9 is one of the priorities, but they need to replace the creativity that they are losing in Trent and they are planning on that, as well as bolstering their defensive options.”
