Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has allegedly told Alejandro Garnacho to find a new club, with the Argentina international not featuring in the plans of the Portuguese for the 2025-26 campaign.

Garnacho, 20, has scored 11 goals and registered 10 assists in 58 appearances for the Red Devils this season, but he was named on the bench for the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

The forward was introduced in the 71st minute, with Man United immediately carrying a greater attacking threat, but the 20-time English champions were unable to find a leveller, ultimately losing 1-0 to the North London club.

After the match, Garnacho’s brother and agent Roberto Garnacho took to social media to question Amorim’s decision.

“Working as no one else, helping every round, coming from two goals in the last two finals, just to be on the pitch for 19 mins and get thrown under the bus. Wowe hahahahahaha,” Roberto Garnacho wrote on Instagram.

Garnacho was also critical of the decision from his manager after the full-time whistle in Bilbao.

“I played every round to help the team reach the final, and today I only got 20 minutes. I don’t know. I will try to enjoy the summer and then see what happens,” he was quoted as saying by AlbicelesteTalk.

Amorim then aimed a dig at Garnacho during his post-match press conference when asked why the forward had not started.

“It’s easy to say that now. Who missed the big opportunity in the first half in the semi-final? Garnacho. Football is like that,” he told reporters.

According to The Athletic, Garnacho has been told by Amorim to find a new club for next season, with the former Atletico Madrid youngster not in the manager’s plans at Old Trafford moving forward.

Journalist David Ornstein also claims that Amorim has told the Man United squad that he will remain in charge for the 2025-26 campaign despite fresh speculation surrounding his future following the Europa League final.

Who could sign Garnacho this summer?

Napoli are believed to have failed with at least one offer for Garnacho during the January transfer window, while Chelsea were also credited with an interest in his services at the start of 2025.

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also believed to be among the clubs keeping a close eye on the situation, but Man United will not sell Garnacho on the cheap, with the club thought to want around £60m for him.

Any sale of Garnacho would count as pure profit in terms of the Premier League’s rules surrounding profit and sustainability, which is another reason why the club are prepared to let him leave.

The attacker is now unlikely to be involved in Sunday’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa at Old Trafford, as the 20-time English champions look to end a hugely disappointing campaign on a positive note.

Garnacho has represented the Red Devils on 144 occasions in all competitions, scoring 26 goals and registering 22 assists in the process, but his final outing for the club is likely to have been the Europa League final.
