Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has addressed the comments that Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes made following Wednesday’s loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
The Red Devils suffered European heartache in Spain, going down 1-0 to Tottenham, with the 20-time English champions therefore missing out on Champions League football for the 2025-26 campaign.
Garnacho showed his frustration after the match that he had only been introduced as a late substitute, while his agent and brother also posted a strong message on social media following the clash in Spain.
“Working as no one else, helping every round, coming from two goals in the last two finals, just to be on the pitch for 19 mins and get thrown under the bus. Wowe hahahahahaha,” Roberto Garnacho wrote on Instagram.
Meanwhile, Garnacho was quoted as saying by AlbicelesteTalk: “I played every round to help the team reach the final, and today I only got 20 minutes. I don’t know. I will try to enjoy the summer and then see what happens.”

Garnacho, Fernandes spoke out on futures after Europa League final
Fernandes, who continues to be heavily linked with Al-Hilal, said that he would be willing to leave Man United this summer if the club decided that it was the right time to sell him.
“I have always been honest. I’ve always said I will be here until the club says to me that it’s time to go,” Fernandes told reporters following the defeat to Tottenham.
“I’m eager to do more, to be able to bring the club the great days. In the day that the club thinks that I’m too much or it’s time to part ways, football is like this, you never know it. But I’ve always said it, and I keep my word in the same way.
“If the club thinks it’s time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in or whatever, it’s what it is, and football sometimes is like this. It’s very sad. We wanted to win more than anything in this final. It’s a very sad day because we’ve done some very good things in this competition until today.
“But today was the day that mattered, the most important day of the competition. It was the day we could have been in the history of the Europa League, but it’s not like that. And football is cruel, and it’s been our turn to lose.”

Amorim fields question on Fernandes, Garnacho comments
Amorim was asked about their comments during his press conference on Saturday, with the Portuguese speaking to the media ahead of the team’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Sunday.
“I always speak to my players, but the focus now is on the last game. We have a plan and we prepared for both situations, with Champions League and without. Now we have to focus on the last game,” Amorim told reporters.
“In this moment I’m really glad that I arrived six months before we started the new season. We avoided a lot of mistakes that would have happened next season. We have avoided a lot of suffering.”
Man United are down in 16th position in the Premier League table, with the 20-time English champions having a disastrous domestic season, but Amorim’s position as head coach is safe.
