Newcastle United have announced that defender Dan Burn has extended his contract at the club.
The 33-year-old was due to see his previous deal expire at the end of this season, but he has now put pen to paper on a new contract that runs until the end of the 2026-27 campaign.
Burn has elevated his game to new heights since joining the Magpies from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2022 and has established himself as an important first-team player under manager Eddie Howe.
The 6ft 7in Blyth-born defender has made a total of 148 appearances for Newcastle, including 45 appearances across all competitions this season, missing just one of the club’s 37 Premier League matches.
Burn opened the scoring and delivered a man-of-the-match performance in Newcastle’s historic EFL Cup final victory over Liverpool in March, playing a crucial role as Howe’s side secured the club’s first major domestic trophy in 70 years.

Burn: ‘I would love to finish my career at Newcastle’
His impressive form in black and white was recognised by new England head coach Thomas Tuchel who handed the defender his international debut in March and has since included him in the latest Three Lions squad ahead of next month’s international break.
Burn is thrilled to have extended his stay at Newcastle and has admitted that he hopes to remain at St James’ Park for the rest of his career.
“I’m delighted to sign a new deal here,” he told Newcastle’s official website. “I knew that I was going into my last year and I really wanted to get my future tied down. I’ve said before that I would love to finish my career here so to be given that opportunity, I’m very grateful.
“I still feel like I’m getting better and I don’t feel that I’ve hit the top of the hill yet. It’ll be tough to top this season but hopefully we can do that over the next couple of years. It’s a dream come true to be playing for this club and I’m delighted that I get to keep doing it.”
Howe added: “Dan has had an incredible season. He has been a key part of our most memorable moments and has rightly been rewarded with senior international football.
“He is a leader who epitomises the attitude and commitment we want, and I’m delighted he’ll be staying with us for even longer.”

Sporting director Paul Mitchell continued: “This is an acknowledgement of Dan’s continued importance to the team.
“He makes an exceptional contribution to the club on and off the pitch, and it’s very pleasing to see his efforts rewarded with a wonderful season for club and country and an extended contract.”
Burn’s new deal comes just over a month after fellow 33-year-old defender Fabian Schar extended his contract to keep him with the Magpies until the end of the 2025-26 season.
Both players are expected to start in Newcastle’s final Premier League game of this season at home to Everton on Sunday, with Howe’s side knowing that victory will secure a top-five finish and Champions League qualification.
