Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has joined an exclusive club after being named the 2024-25 Premier League Player of the Season.
The Egypt international has played a standout role this season to help Liverpool win their 20th top-flight title.
Salah has racked up 28 goals and provided 18 assists in 37 top-flight appearances, leaving him just one goal contribution away from equalling the Premier League record for the most goal involvements in a single Premier League campaign.
As a result of his success on the pitch, Salah has been rewarded with the 2024-25 Premier League player of the season award.
Votes from football experts, combined with those from the public, have seen Salah top an eight-man shortlist that included his Liverpool teammates Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch.
The shortlist also included Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and the Nottingham Forest duo of Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood.
Salah emulates Ronaldo, De Bruyne
Salah is the first non-Manchester City player to win the award since Van Dijk claimed the prize in the 2018-19 season.
The 32-year-old has also become the fifth player to win the award on multiple occasions after he previously collected the honour in 2017-18.
Salah has joined an exclusive club of two-time winners, following in the footsteps of former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo and Man City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and ex-Man United defender Nemanja Vidic round off the list of players who have won the award on more than one occasion.
How could Salah make more history?
Having claimed the Player of the Season award, Salah is on the brink of creating history ahead of Sunday’s final game of the season against Crystal Palace.
The Liverpool forward could become the first person to win the Player of the Season, Golden Boot and Golden Playmaker awards in the same Premier League season.
Salah is five goals clear of Isak at the top of the scoring charts, while he has six more assists than Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy in the assist standings.
The attacker is also just two goals away from moving level with Andy Cole in fourth position of the all-time Premier League scorers’ list.
