Yellow is one of the most common colour that many football teams play in.

It is a very bright color which easily differentiates any team that decides to wear it.

Here are the top football teams that play in yellow.

1. Brazil

The Brazilian national team is one of the foremost football clubs that play in yellow.

Brazil’s iconic yellow jersey, known as “Canarinho” (Little Canary), was adopted after the heartbreak of the 1950 World Cup.

Brazil’s first team colors were white with blue collars, but after their agonizing defeat at Maracanã in the 1950 World Cup, the colors were changed to yellow jersey with green trim and blue shorts.

They have won the yellow jersey ever since. The football-crazy South American nation is one of the countries with the most football trophies.

2. Borussia Dortmund

The German club is one of the country’s biggest and most successful teams. They were founded 112 years ago on December 19th, 1909.

They started wearing their famous yellow and black jersey in 1913, which has become associated with them ever since.

Dortmund’s famous black and yellow kit represents the colors of the city’s coat of arms.

The club adopted these colors in 1913, and “Die Schwarzgelben” (The Black and Yellows) have been synonymous with passionate fans and electric atmospheres ever since.

Dortmund is regarded as one of the big clubs in Germany other than Bayern Munich and, over the past few seasons, have given the current Bundesliga champions a run for their money.

In their long, proud history, Borussia has won many domestic titles and are also former UEFA Champions League winners.

3. BSC Young Boys

The French side is historically one of the top sides in the country, having won several league and domestic cup titles.

6. Villarreal CF

The Spanish club, despite its relatively diminutive size in terms of population and club followership, is still one of the most respected clubs in the Iberian country.

The yellow submarine, as they are fondly called due to their all-yellow strip, is one of the best and most competitive clubs in Spain.

Nicknamed “El Submarino Amarillo” (The Yellow Submarine), Villarreal’s yellow kit was chosen in the 1940s when the club’s founders bought yellow shirts by chance due to a lack of white ones.

The color stuck and became a symbol of the club’s unique identity.

Founded 99 years ago in the Spanish town with the same name, Villarreal has built a reputation as giant killers in recent times.

Standing toe to toe with top teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona in the domestic scene as well as causing upsets against top European sides like Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

7. Sweden

8. ASEC Mimosas

The African giants are undisputedly the biggest club side in the West African country Ivory Coast.

Les Jaunes et Noirs (The Yellow and Blacks) was founded in 1948 and is a household name in African club competitions.

They feature in yellow jerseys and have won several domestic and international titles.

They are also reputed as one of the best talent factories on the African continent, having produced so many stars from their acclaimed academy.

9. Norwich City

Known as “The Canaries,” Norwich City’s yellow and green colors are inspired by the canary, a bird associated with the city’s history in the weaving and bird-keeping trades.

The canary also appears on their badge, making yellow an iconic part of their identity

10. Australian national team

Australia national football team

The Australian soccer team first wore the traditional green and yellow colours in 1924.

Although the country’s flag doesn’t have a single yellow colour (the colours are blue, red, and white), their soccer team uses shades of green and yellow.

That is because, unlike many national football teams, who base their home colours on the flag, the Australian team uses as a base the colours of a typical plant in the country, the acacia, which has green leaves and yellow flowers.

Australia is the only national football team to have been a champion of two confederations. They won the OFC Nations Cup four times between 1980 and 2004 and won the 2015 AFC Asian Cup on home soil.

11. Ukrainian national team

The Eastern European country is unfortunately currently bogged down with war following the Russian invasion but will be hoping to put some smiles on the faces of their countrymen by attempting to qualify for the FIFA World Cup through the playoffs this June.
