TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Johnny Cardoso is keen to sign for Tottenham Hotspur now.
Tottenham have held a non-mandatory purchase option worth £20.8 million to sign the Real Betis midfielder since the summer of 2025.
However, Spurs have allowed Johnny Cardoso to develop in Spain and he has certainly impressed – being rewarded with a contract extension by Betis until 2030 in February.
With how much the 23-year-old has shone at Real Betis, Tottenham have been in talks to sign Cardoso at the end of the season.
Wolves launched a bid for Cardoso as well but now it seems like his move to Spurs is edging closer than ever.
Tottenham given deadline to complete Johnny Cardoso transfer
Sources have informed TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey that Tottenham have until July 10th to wrap up a deal for Cardoso now.
The good news for Ange Postecoglou is that the deal is considered “likely” to be done due to the opportunity at hand.
From Cardoso’s point of view, he is keen to make a move to Tottenham and fancies himself to perform as well — which is a relief for the Lilywhites as the deal ultimately hinges on the player’s wishes.
With the terrific form he has been in, it is no surprise to see the 23-year-old seemingly back himself as much as he privately is.
Yves Bissouma could leave Tottenham this summer and if that does end up being the case, a space in the middle of the park will be freed up for the American defensive midfielder to take up.
Will Tottenham sign any midfielders apart from Johnny Cardoso?
Tottenham fans will be hoping that their summer spending in midfield does not stop at just potentially signing Cardoso.
TBR Football understands that Tottenham could end up signing two brand-new midfielders before the start of next season.
One of them is Angel Gomes, who Tottenham are “pushing hard” to sign.
Gomes has decided to leave Lille this summer on a free transfer.
Daniel Levy personally wants to sign Gomes and the prospect of watching the England international and Cardoso in the same midfield is one that Spurs supporters is hoping becomes a reality in the next few months.
