Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will leave this summer, according to Reds legend Mark Lawrenson. The former center-back has sensationally claimed that he feels the Brazilian wants to move on and get a big payday elsewhere.
Last summer, Liverpool agreed a deal to bring in the Georgian shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. He is one of the top up-and-coming goalkeepers around and will arrive at Anfield at the end of this season.
And Lawrenson believes that is evidence that Alisson wants to move on, despite his performance against PSG in the Champions League proving that he remains the best in the world. Harvey Elliott’s late winner snatched a first-leg victory but it was the Liverpool goalkeeper who was the clear Man of the Match at the Parc des Princes.
“I have this feeling that the reason Liverpool have brought in Mamardashvili is because Alisson is going to leave in the summer,” Lawrenson told Paddy Power. “I have a feeling that he’ll want to leave, which will leave Caoimhin Kelleher and Mamardashvili fighting for the number one spot.
“Alisson is now 32 years old, so I think he’ll be looking for one final big payday before he retires. Every team in the world will want Alisson, so if Liverpool can get big money for him, then it works for all parties.”
Alisson has made no suggestion that he wants to leave Liverpool and he is under contract until 2027. “Probably of my life, I think!” Alisson said when he was asked post-match if this was his best performance of the season.
“The manager was telling us how hard it would be to play against PSG, how good they are with the ball and we have to be ready to suffer. When you see the clips from the opponent, you know what is coming, so much quality in their side.
“But we as well work hard. Yeah, we gave away so many chances but always with a player on the ball, some of them with a one-v-one but the biggest part of the chase is always having someone to make the player who is having the chance think a little bit more.
“So, it makes my job easier, all the effort the team puts in. At the end, Harvey coming in and scoring the goal, it’s unbelievable and a great story for us. A great night.”
Liverpool.com says: Like Mohamed Salah, Alisson should have no interest in going anywhere this summer. There is interest in him from Saudi Arabia but it would be crazy if he left the elite level of the game for a bit more cash. As he showed against PSG, Alisson is peerless when it comes to goalkeepers. Liverpool should be keeping him for as long as he wants to remain in the Premier League.
