Arsenal are going to be in the market for a new striker this summer, that’s for sure.
Kai Havertz is out for the season, and that has really highlighted the Gunners’ lack of depth in their attack.
Luckily, the summer transfer window isn’t all that far away, and Arsenal do have some potential targets in mind.
Arsenal’s dream target is Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, while Arsenal also want RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
Victor Osimhen has also been linked to Arsenal, but according to Charles Watts, writing for The Daily Briefing, there’s reason to be sceptical about the links between Osimhen and Arsenal.
What’s being said about Victor Osimhen’s links to Arsenal
Watts shared what he knows about Osimhen and his links to Arsenal.
According to the journalist, he’s not heard anything to suggest that Osimhen will be signing for Arsenal in the summer, while he also claimed that a move for Alexander Isak is unrealistic,
“I’m always a bit sceptical when I hear of links between Victor Osimhen and Arsenal,” Watts wrote.
“There was some interest in him a few years ago, but I’ve not heard anything since then to suggest the constant speculation linking the Nigerian striker with a move to North London has much merit to it.
“He’s a top striker, there’s no doubt about that, but Arsenal have others who are well ahead of him in their list of potential summer targets, if he is even on their list of targets at all.
“We know Mikel Arteta would love to sign Alexander Isak, but I just struggle to see how that is realistic this summer.
“I don’t see a way that Newcastle let him go for a price that Arsenal could realistically hit. Benjamin Sesko still feels like the most likely option to me when it comes to Arsenal signing an out and out No.9.
“The interest they had in Sesko last summer still remains. His decision to stay with Leipzig for another season did not burn any bridges with Arsenal and the money it would take to get him out of Germany means he is a far more realistic option than Isak.”
Victor Osimhen compared to other Arsenal targets
Osimhen to Arsenal doesn’t appear to be on the cards this summer, but it’s fair to say that this would be a brilliant signing.
Indeed, while Alexander Isak is an incredible player, Isak is valued at £200m by some at this point.
Benjamin Sesko is also a fantastic player, and he has plenty of potential, but Osimhen is much more of the finished product at the moment.
Alexander Isak | Victor Osimhen | Benjamin Sesko | |
---|---|---|---|
24 | 19 | 23 | |
Goals | 19 | 16 | 10 |
Assists | 5 | 4 | 4 |
Osimhen could be just what the doctor ordered at Arsenal, he’s a proven commodity at the top level, and he knows how to find the back of the net.
Unfortunately, this deal doesn’t look likely to happen in the summer, but if Arsenal want to win the Premier League next season, they need to find a striker of this calibre who knows how to score goals.
