Ruben Amorim has not had the best of starts to life at Manchester United.

Indeed, United have gone backwards under Ruben Amorim, they sit 14th in the Premier League table and they’re out of both domestic cup competitions too.

Amorim has been questioned on a number of occasions since arriving at Old Trafford, but, interestingly, Amorim has consistently received praise for his ability in terms of handling the press and how he comes across in interviews.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Tim Sherwood has been discussing Amorim’s charisma, and he’s saying that he’s actually worried that Amorim managed to talk his way into the Manchester United job rather than getting the role because of his ability.

Tim Sherwood’s concerning Ruben Amorim theory

Sherwood shared his theory on why Amorim got the United job.

The pundit claimed that Amorim is so good at talking, he may well have baffled the United board into giving him the job.

“Is he one of the best in front of the camera you have ever seen? Under the pressure of managing Manchester United and having such a bad time, I think he’s incredible,’ Sherwood said.

“The worry is that he’s such a good talker. I worry that when they interviewed the guy, if he’s such a good talker, he baffled them into giving him the job.

“I know what he did at Sporting was good, but it’s a different level to the Premier League. Sometimes you’re so good in the interview process the job is just given to you because you talk so well. He has charisma. I still think he has charisma.”

Ruben Amorim record for Manchester United so far

Regardless of what United’s reasoning behind giving Ruben Amorim the United job was, that decision is looking more and more questionable with each passing week.

Indeed, Amorim’s start to life in Manchester has been nothing short of terrible. So much so that relegation was discussed as a possibility at one point.

Amorim’s stats so far at United make for grim reading, that’s for sure. In fact, Amorim has the worst win percentage of any permanent Manchester United boss since Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United managers Games Wins Draws Losses Win percentage
51 27 9 15 53%
Louis van Gaal 103 54 25 24 52%
Jose Mourinho 144 84 32 28 58%
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 168 91 37 40 54%
Erik ten Hag 128 70 23 35 55%
Ruben Amorim 25 10 6 9 40%

Of course, any manager needs time and patience, as well as backing in the transfer window, but when you’re seeing managers such as David Moyes having such transformative effects at clubs such as Everton, you can’t help but question why Amorim can’t get any semblance of a tune out of his United team.

Amorim has a lot to prove at United, because, as Sherwood says, for now, he doesn’t look like much more than a manager who talks a big game.
