Do not lose focus.

Bayern Munich’s 3-0 victory against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League was an utterly glorious one, with the team’s six-game winless streak against Die Werkself snapped and revenge dealt to the team that usurped Bayern last season and won the Bundesliga crown out from under the Bavarians’ noses. This was Bayern putting Leverkusen firmly back in their place.

But there is no guarantee Leverkusen will stay there for even a week. Thought the victory was great, it will mean nothing if Bayern do not complete the job in the second leg next week. Fortunately, Bayern defender Dayot Upamecano knows that well.

“We were better in duels today than the opponent and played forward with aggression. It was a very good game by us. We have super fans and they really helped us today. But it’s only the first half,” the French defender warned in comments captured by FCBayern.com. “It’s all still to be decided next week. We need to defend just as aggressively in Leverkusen so we don’t concede any goals.”

He is absolutely right. Let us hope these words translate into appropriate action in the return leg next week.
