John Obi Mikel is confident that Chelsea can move ahead of Arsenal next season if Enzo Marseca does two things over the summer.
Chelsea currently find themselves six points behind Arsenal in the Premier League with the two London clubs set to go head to head next weekend.
But before the current campaign has even reached its conclusion, Obi Mikel has made a bold prediction about Chelsea and Arsenal’s title chances for next season.
John Obi Mikel claims Chelsea can compete for the Premier League if they make two signings
John Obi Mikel reckons Chelsea can compete for the Premier League title next season if they sign a top striker and goalkeeper.
The Blues’ title charge has fallen apart this year with injuries happening in key attacking areas and there still being glaring holes in Enzo Maresca’s side.
When asked who will win the Premier League title first between Arsenal and Chelsea, Obi Mikel told The Obi One Podcast: “We know where we have to strengthen, everybody knows. If we do that with the squad we have right now, get another top striker to help Nicolas Jackson, now he’s injured, we’re struggling to score goals, healthy competition is so important.
“If we get another top, top striker to create healthy competition between the two strikers, listen, we will be competing to win the league and another top goalkeeper. Every team that wins the Premier League has one, you have to have a top, top goalkeeper that the players will look at and know my goal is well secured.
“If we do that, I genuinely see us next season competing towards the back end of the season for the Premier League title. I don’t see Arsenal winning the Premier League – they will bottle it as they always do.”
John Obi Mikel again questions Robert Sanchez’s performance vs Leicester
Obi Mikel has been rather critical of Sanchez this season and in his latest podcast has once again slammed the Spanish goalkeeper.
The Blues secured a 1-0 win against Leicester, however, there were a few scares, including the Spaniard nearly forcing an own goal.
The 28-year-old came flying out to collect a cross before misjudging the flight and confusing Tosin Adarabioyo who came close to turning it into his own net.
The former Chelsea midfielder added: “There was a mistake from Sanchez again, which luckily didn’t end up in [a] goal, but what was he doing? I don’t get it. It was a cross that I think the central defenders can deal with and he’s come out again. I don’t know where he was going.”
