Joleon Lescott names the Arsenal player who will still make defenders ‘nervous’ regardless of his recent form

Joleon Lescott claims that one of Arsenal’s out of form players will still make defenders worried when they see his name on the teamsheet.

Arsenal’s poor form over recent weeks has seen them fall 15 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool leaving their title charge in tatters.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been very unfortunate with attacking injuries with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli all missing.

The Gunners’ current attacking options haven’t been in the best of form as of late, however, Lescott has named the one player who will still strike fear into opposition back lines.

Joleon Lescott claims Raheem Sterling will still make defenders ‘nervous’

Joleon Lescott believes that Raheem Sterling will still make defenders ‘nervous’ given his pace and regardless of the recent criticism which the winger has faced.

Sterling has faced a fair amount of criticism during his time at Arsenal having struggled to make much of an impact at the Emirates Stadium.

The 30-year-old has managed just three goal contributions in 22 appearances this season and not been fancied by Mikel Arteta despite the club’s injury crisis.

But, Lescott reckons that defenders facing Arsenal will still look at the teamsheet when Sterling is playing and be worried about him, regardless of his form.

Lescott told Rio Ferdinand Presents: “If you’re a defender regardless of anything if I’m looking at the teamsheet and I’m seeing Sterling, I’m nervous. If there’s a race he’s going to win one.

“But you’re still worried about the pace, you’re questioning that at the minute, but I’m still believing he is fast – he’s faster than most defenders.”

Mikel Arteta doesn’t seem to fancy Raheem Sterling at Arsenal

Despite Lescott’s claim, the simple truth at the moment is that Arteta seems to have very little trust in Sterling given his lack of minutes.

The Gunners are without three key attackers and yet the former Man City winger is still struggling for game time in North London.
