Liverpool might have crashed out of the Champions League on penalties against PSG but there is still plenty to look forward to this season. And the summer should be exciting too.
Arne Slot has already made it clear that players are being looked at ahead of what could be a big window. Liverpool will want to go further in Europe next time around, and in part, that will require some fresh blood to come in.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. We start with a defender plying his trade in England already who is drawing interest from lots of clubs heading into the summer.
Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth)
Liverpool “will pay” the $65M (£50M/€60M) release clause to sign Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen this summer in order to beat clubs including Manchester United and Tottenham to the signature of the Spaniard.
That is according to the iPaper, who report that the Reds view the 19-year-old center-back as a long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk. Liverpool would end up paying four times what the Cherries gave Juventus for Huijsen last summer.
Huijsen was born in the Netherlands but grew up in Spain and represents their U21 team. He has impressed in his debut season in the Premier League by showing himself to be a very capable defender who is also an expert in possession.
Liverpool.com says: Huijsen would be an excellent addition for the Reds. He is already very good but would be the ideal age to one day take over from Van Dijk, even if the Liverpool captain should be tied down to a new deal. Milos Kerkez would be a great option too.
5 Liverpool players ‘could leave’ this summer
Liverpool is preparing for an “exciting summer” of transfers with five players said to be potentially heading for the exit door. Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has claimed on X/Twitter that Caoimhin Kelleher, Wataru Endo, Harvey Elliott, Federico Chiesa, and Diogo Jota could be among those to depart when the campaign ends.
Giorgi Mamardashvili has already been signed to play in goal and Kelleher will only have one year left on his contract, having already made it clear that he wants more minutes. The other four names have played a limited amount of minutes too for a variety of reasons, though Elliott has already made it clear that he wants to fight for his place.
Liverpool.com says: It is going to be a fascinating summer for the Reds when it comes to the transfer market. There could be a few changes to the roster but a lot will come down to the three big contracts. That still has to be the priority: keeping key men including Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
