Max Eberl explains unavailable Bayern Munich player Aleksandar Pavlović has glandular fever

In an unusual twist of fate, Bayern Munich’s roster over the past few weeks has been rather healthy. Of course, there are still some bizarre injuries some players need to work through, such as Manuel Neuer working to recover from…erm, injuring himself while celebrating a goal. Aleksandar Pavlović’s absence, however, might be even more bizarre. Suddenly noted as unavailable right before Bayern’s recent clash with VFB Stuttgart and now nearing two weeks of unavailability, recent reports suggest that he has been hit with a “massive viral infection” that will keep him out for the weeks to come.

But what was it? What has got him so ill? Speaking after Bayern’s 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl explained what the infection is, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:

For those who do not know glandular fever, it is called the “kissing disease.” …Yeah. It is transmitted via saliva (hence the name). So I guess he just…kissed the wrong person?

Regardless of how he got it, the recovery time for glandular fever is 2-4 weeks, but could also lead to a period of fatigue for several months. Get well soon, Pavlović.
