Poor guy cannot catch a break.
Aleksandar Pavlović’s illness was utterly bizarre from the get go. Pronounced fit and raring to go the day before a vital clash for Bayern Munich against VfB Stuttgart, his absence due to illness was a real shock. Questions remained and grew in numbers as his absence extended to 2, 3, 4 games and nobody really knew what the infection he was suffering was. Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl’s revelation after the win against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League that the infection is the “kissing disease” was also rather bizarre.
But the consequences to such an illness can be terrible for the Bayern Campus graduate if not handled correctly. Via a report from Bild, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, Bayern are looking to ease back Pavlović back very slowly even if it means he will be missed for a very extended period of time:
Bayern don’t want to take any risks with Aleks Pavlović. The plan is to let him fully recover in peace. Pavlović is expected to be sidelined for another two weeks – but if his blood tests subsequently raise even minimal concerns, his break could be extended to a total of 6 weeks. The club will definitely not give the green light for a premature return because that could lead to a relapse and dangerous consequences like chronic fatigue.
The Germany international will miss his country’s clash with Italy in the Nations League quarterfinals and could return in time for Bayern’s first fixture after the international break ends. Or, if the tests bring about a negative result, he could be out of the majority of the rest of the season. Let us hope Pavlović’s blood tests are good and that he makes a full recovery as soon as possible.
