‘I think’: Gary Neville and Roy Keane predict the score for Liverpool vs Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final

Following their exit from the Champions League, Liverpool will now look to bounce back against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.

Liverpool look destined to win the Premier League but their meeting with Newcastle at Wembley this weekend will be Arne Slot’s first chance to win a trophy at the club.

Of course, Eddie Howe is still chasing that elusive honour at Newcastle too, and the club did identify the League Cup as an important chance to win a trophy when they began their new post-investment project.

Howe’s Newcastle side did reach the final back in 2003, but on that occasion they were beaten 2-0 by Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United – a bitter blow.

Now, the Magpies do have the chance to put things right, even if they are going up against the best team in England right now, a side they haven’t beaten since 2015.

Gary Neville and Roy Keane agree on Carabao Cup final result

That being said, both Gary Neville and Roy Keane shared their predictions for Sunday’s game on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast.

Speaking alongside the likes of Ian Wright, both seemingly agreed that Liverpool would win, with Neville even convinced that the home side would keep a clean sheet.

Neville said: “Here we go – I think Liverpool will win 2-1 or 2-0… 2-0 Liverpool.”

Wright replied: “You’re not giving Isak a goal?”

Neville: “Do you know you know something? Newcastle never play well at Wembley.”

Keane added: “3-1, yeah” – seemingly in favour of Liverpool.

Neville: “When you watch Newcastle at Wembley, you see all them fans that have travelled like six, seven hours, you think go on and give them something, surprise them.”

Alan Shearer says how Newcastle can stop Mohamed Salah

Micah Richards has said how Newcastle can beat Liverpool, but it remains to be seen what kind of performance Howe’s side will deliver on Sunday.

Interestingly, Alan Shearer actually shared who he thinks Howe should start at Wembley when speaking on the ‘Rest is Football’ podcast recently.

With Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon both being high-profile absentees for Newcastle against Liverpool, Shearer was convinced that Tino Livramento should be the man to go up against Mohamed Salah.

Speaking on the podcast, he said: “I think what he’ll do is he’ll put Trippier right back and Livramento at left back.

“If it was me, I’d probably play Harvey Barnes on the left hand side.”

Shearer continued: “Murphy and Isak, yeah. And the three in midfield, if they’re fit, would be Bruno, Joelinton and Tonali.

“I think with Livramento’s pace, I think that’s why he’ll stick him in at left back and against Mo Salah. He’s going to have to have a good game, isn’t he? No pressure.”
