Ange Postecoglou just broke a promise he made to Tottenham players in December after 2-0 loss at Fulham

After the euphoria of defeating AZ Alkmaar on Thursday, Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham came crashing back down to reality with defeat at Fulham on Sunday.

Late goals from Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon – who Spurs released – compounded Tottenham to a 15th Premier League defeat of the season, leaving the north Londoners 13th in the table.

Mathys Tel clashed with Tottenham fans after the final whistle – who were audibly furious – and Ange Postecoglou also broke a promise he made to his players back in December by choosing to lambast Yves Bissouma.

Ange Postecoglou goes back on his word

Back in December – amidst a situation involving Cristian Romero – the Australian said: “Cristian, he realises that lot of what he said was good but some wasn’t the right way of dealing with it. The same way I wouldn’t criticise a player publicly.”

Now – however – Postecoglou has criticised a player publicly, singling Bissouma out for a poor performance at Craven Cottage.

The 59-year-old said: “I feel Biss sometimes lets the game drift by him, he needs to be more dominant. Today, we needed more in that position. I had needed him to play because he hasn’t played a lot. At the same time, I need him to perform. It is safe to say maybe Biss and a few guys lack a bit of confidence but at this stage of the season we need people to perform.”

Bissouma was unquestionably disappointing against Fulham. The Mali international was given a match rating of just 6.3 by SofaScore – the lowest of any Tottenham player – winning just two of his six duels while only completing 18 passes.

Yves Bissouma is surely heading for the exit door at Tottenham

In all honesty, the Tottenham No.8 has never really got along too well with the man born in Greece, from the outside looking in.

Bissouma surely lost the trust of Postecoglou back in December after a manic display in the 4-3 loss against Chelsea, where he conceded a foolish penalty having already been told he needs to work for “redemption” by his manager.

Postecoglou also screamed at Bissouma in May 2024 during a different match against Chelsea, with his latest comments against the Malian surely proof that he has lost even more patience in him.
