The Spanish media have been going crazy about the performance of Joan Garcia against Mallorca after the goalkeeper saved two penalties.
Somehow, Espanyol still managed to lose 2-1, although the performance of Garcia, who is valued at £25m, has received some serious praise from the press.
The 23-year-old has been left out of the latest Spanish squad by manager Luis de la Fuente and the media have been left bewildered by that decision.
Diario AS made a big claim about the Spaniard’s display, labelling him ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the world’: “Perfect in the air, he once again demonstrated that, in the eyes of everyone except Luis de la Fuente, he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Not in Europe, in the world. It’s that clear.
“He saved a penalty from Muriqi in a superb move, came close to preventing Mallorca from scoring with a point-blank shot, and then saved another penalty, this time from Abdón Prats. With the third penalty, unstoppable, he could do nothing.”
Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo believe he is better than David Raya, claiming: “It’s incomprehensible that he wasn’t called up to the national team. His performance was unbeatable. He saved two penalties and came close to a third. He’s currently the best Spanish goalkeeper.”
Arsenal face strong competition from Man City for Joan Garcia
