What Mathys Tel had to endure after Fulham 2-0 Tottenham might not make him want to stay at Spurs

Mathys Tel was handed a recall to the starting XI by Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham took on Fulham.

The Frenchman – on loan from Bayern Munich – had been dropped for the crucial UEFA Europa League clash against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday, after a run of four games without a goal involvement across all competitions.

Unfortunately, the France U21 international could not inspire Tottenham to victory at Craven Cottage, as Fulham ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals by Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon.

After the final whistle sounded, Mathys Tel was involved in an uncomfortable moment which could see him start to have second thoughts about staying in N17 beyond his loan spell.

Unfortunately, the 19-year-old found himself dealing with several furious Spurs fans at the end of Sunday’s London derby.

Instead of a senior player stepping up to take responsibility, a teenage loanee in Tel could be heard telling supporters that “we need to be together” after a 15th Premier League defeat of the campaign for Spurs.

We are unable to embed the footage due to the language used by Tottenham fans – although you can see for yourself here on X (previously known as Twitter).

Tel, who prefers Sadio Mane to Harry Kane, deserves credit for going over to speak to the away end inside Craven Cottage after another disappointing result – which leaves Spurs 13th in the Premier League – although it could have repercussions.

Mathys Tel might not want to stay with Spurs after unsavoury footage emerges

As you may already know, Tottenham do have the option to buy Tel permanently from Bayern Munich this summer for a fee of £45m – although the attacker must agree to the move.

While the Sarcelles-born forward arguably needs to do more for Spurs to want to trigger that clause, he himself may opt to turn Tottenham down if a £45m offer is made, as he seemed pretty fed up at the end of the aforementioned video.

Spurs are showing no signs of going anywhere special anytime soon under Postecoglou – while European football is not happening next season unless Tottenham win the UEFA Europa League this term – so Tel might see little value in staying in N17 any longer than he needs to, amidst the toxicity.
