Sané’s future with Bayern will be decided after the pause for international matches. Will he extend, or leave?
Leroy Sané’s current contract at Bayern Munich is still set to expire this summer, but there have been signals from both the player and the club that a new deal could possibly be worked out before the end of the season. The club has proposed the idea of putting Sané on a lowered wage, performance-based contract as the front office is actively trying to reduce the overall wage bill and free up financial resources for future transfers, like their presumed pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.
The priority for contracts left Sané lower on the totem pole as well, as the main focus was on getting the deals over the line for Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich, which have now all been done. For Sané, he has personally expressed an openness to taking a wage cut and going on a performance-based contract in order to stay in Munich even though there are clubs abroad that are interested in acquiring his services.
Per information from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern is planning on holding discussions with their number 10 about his contract situation after the international break that is set to begin next week. Sané was called up to the German national team by Julian Nagelsmann along with Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala for their pair of UEFA Nations League matches against Italy in Milan and then Dortmund.

There is no concrete decision at this juncture and nothing is in the advanced stages, but it is very well understood by all parties that Sané would prefer staying at Bayern to leaving. He definitely does no want to go to Saudi Arabia, though Arsenal have also shown interest in trying to sign him, though Mikel Arteta’s prime focus in the next transfer window will be on trying to sign a striker.
After the international break, there could be a much clearer picture as to whether or not Sané has a future with Bayern. There are still two trophies for the Rekordmeister to win and Sané can, and will, play a vital role in trying to win both of them.
