Andrea Berta should sign £40m striker at Arsenal if Alexander Isak move fails, Arteta would love him – opinion

Andrea Berta is closing in on becoming Arsenal’s brand-new sporting director and one way he could make himself an instant fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium is by signing a top-class striker.

The good news for Arsenal fans is that Berta already seems to have his sights set on a few marksmen and has seemingly made it one of his main priorities to sign a fresh face up top.

One of them is Wolves number nine Matheus Cunha, who Andrea Berta would love at Arsenal having reportedly informed them of his desire to secure the Brazilian’s services.

Berta would like Jonathan David signing for Arsenal as well and is believed to be pushing for a move for the Lille goalscorer.

But Mikel Arteta’s preference is to sign Alexander Isak in the summer. But Isak’s potential move to Arsenal could be unlikely as Newcastle United could demand up to £200 million for the Carabao Cup winner.

Liam Delap should be Arsenal’s Alexander Isak alternative

But if Andrea Berta cannot fulfil Arteta’s wish of bringing Arteta to Arsenal, another Premier League striker he could take a look at is Liam Delap.

TBR Football exclusively revealed a few days ago that Delap would cost £40 million — making him the perfect cut-price alternative to the Swedish international.

The Englishman fits the mould of an Arsenal player as well — being just 22, Premier League-proven, technically gifted and an incredible young talent on the whole.

This season, Delap has managed to score 10 goals for an Ipswich Town side that are languishing in 18th place in the league — which shows how special a goalscorer the Englishman could morph into if he played for an actual top team.

Mikel Arteta would like a focal point up front and the former Manchester City frontman is just that, standing at over six foot and having the physicality to bully experienced defenders as well. Delap is excellent at holding the ball up and bringing others into play, much like Gabriel Jesus but the difference between himself and the Brazilian is that the latter is a clinical finisher as well.

Gary Lineker suggested Arsenal to sign Delap and rightly so, also considering that he would fit Arteta’s style of play after having worked with Pep Guardiola for years — making it a no-brainer for Andrea Berta to pursue his signature.

Andrea Berta will have to beat two clubs to Liam Delap transfer

But Berta will be aware that the competition to sign the Ipswich talisman will be heated.

Chelsea are preparing a bid for Delap worth £50 million.

While TBR Football were informed a few days ago that Liverpool are interested in signing Delap as well.

But Andrea Berta is a seasoned operator in the transfer market and if he feels that Delap would fit the bill for Arsenal, he has all the experience to make such a move come to life.
