Exclusive: Newcastle ready to make major move in attempt to keep Alexander Isak away from Arsenal and Liverpool

4 Min Read

Alexander Isak is willing to give Newcastle United the chance to match his own ambitions amid interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, TBR Football can reveal.

Newcastle have been ready to open talks with Isak about a new contract for some time now and are keen to do so before the end of the season.

Isak starred for Newcastle in their Carabao Cup win over Liverpool, when the striker once again demonstrated that he’s among the world’s best.

And in total, Isak has now scored 23 goals in 33 games for Newcastle across all competitions this season.

Mikel Arteta is determined to sign Isak this summer for Arsenal, a side he often scores against, but Newcastle now have a renewed plan to keep the Swede at St James’ Park.

Newcastle willing to make Alexander Isak the highest earner in their club history

Graeme Bailey – TBR Football chief correspondent, understands that Newcastle are ready to break their wage structure to keep Isak.

Isak first arrived at Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022, and is yet to extend his initial contract with the side.

The club’s current top earner is Bruno Guimaraes – who is understood to be earning in excess of £150k-a-week, but Newcastle are going to have to go way above that mark to keep Isak.

Despite Newcastle’s eagerness to open talks, Isak will wait to see where Eddie Howe’s side finish in the Premier League before deciding whether to commit to the club.

Newcastle firmly believe that Isak is one of the world’s top strikers, but sources acknowledge that as it stands he is paid way below market value – he is not one of the club’s top earners.

Champions League qualification will be crucial for Eddie Howe’s side

Key to any decision will be Newcastle’s ability to claim one of the Champions League spots this season.

Owing to England’s strong coefficient, it seems as if the top five sides in the Premier League will qualify for Europe’s top competition.

Newcastle are currently sixth in the league with a game in hand, and qualifying for the Champions League would enable the Magpies to pay more than £200k-a-week to a player for the first time in their history.

Arsenal and Liverpool are both confirmed admirers of Isak – two sides who often witness his quality on a weekly basis in the Premier League.

However, European giants Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain also both admire the Sweden international and are following his situation.
