Bruno Guimaraes made a strong promise to Newcastle United’s supporters after losing the 2023 Carabao Cup final which he delivered on in 2025.

Newcastle United ended their 70-year wait for silverware as they defeated Liverpool 2-1 in the League Cup final.

Goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak secured the cup for Eddie Howe’s side despite Federico Chiesa’s stoppage-time goal providing a late scare.

Their triumph at Wembley was made even sweeter by the fact they had lost the same final just two years prior, allowing Guimaraes to deliver on the promise he made them after the defeat to Manchester United.

Bruno Guimaraes promised Newcastle United would keep moving forward after the 2023 Carabao Cup final

Speaking after Newcastle United’s painful Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester United in 2023, Bruno Guimaraes insisted Newcastle United would keep moving forward.

Guimaraes has been linked with moves to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal and Liverpool, however, the Brazilian has always shown a strong loyalty to the Magpies.

Last summer, Guimaraes’ loyalty to Newcastle saw him made captain and the 25-year-old has worn their black and white shirt with immense pride.

After beating Liverpool to win the club’s first trophy in 70 years, the midfielder was visibly emotional with the win being made even more meaningful after the promise he made the fans after losing the final two seasons prior.

Guimaraes claimed on Instagram: “That’s football. Not always giving our best is enough. Let’s keep walking our path in pursuit of Newcastle’s success.

“With delivery, dedication and love for the project and fans we represent. Healing our wounds and moving forward in search of the top. For NUFC. For the fans. I’m proud, but not happy. Because I’ll never accept the defeat.”

What Bruno Guimaraes said after winning the Carabao Cup final

Guimaraes was once again very emotional at Wembley but this time for a very different reason as he admitted winning the cup was ‘the best day of his life’.

He told Sky Sports: “70 years it’s a lot for these fans, they deserve everything. When I first came here I said I wanted to put my name in the club’s history.

“After 70 years we can now say we are the champions again – the fans deserve everything, this is now the best day of my life!”
