Report: How Liverpool feel about selling Federico Chiesa this summer after he scores at Wembley

4 Min Read

It’s fair to say that Federico Chiesa’s Liverpool career has been a tale of frustration at Anfield to date.

Chiesa has one of the most unenviable tasks in world football of challenging Mohamed Salah for his starting spot at Liverpool, a winger who also fares best on the right wing.

Arne Slot welcomed the Italian to Liverpool for something of a bargain in the summer, a move that caused a lot of excitement at the time.

However, more than six-months after his arrival, Chiesa has only made 11 appearances in red and played 387 minutes.

And whilst Liverpool are expected to make significant changes to their squad in the summer, there seems little prospect of an increased role for the 27-year-old whilst Salah sticks around.

Liverpool already facing Federico Chiesa decision

Liverpool are in contract talks with Salah, and Richard Hughes and his team are using the international break to focus their efforts.

But according to Give Me Sport, Chiesa’s own future is very much ‘up in the air’ despite only just arriving at the club.

Liverpool’s whole forward line is thought to be under review this summer and Chiesa’s teammates Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota could be sold if the right offer arrived.

And according to the report mentioned, Luis Diaz’s own future could also play a significant role in what happens with his Italian teammate.

Barcelona continue to be linked with Diaz, rumours that existed even before Slot arrived at the club.

There is said to be a ‘growing feeling’ that the Colombian would be receptive to Barcelona’s interest, explaining why Hughes and his team might be very busy this summer.

Arne Slot needs to give Federico Chiesa a proper chance

Amid the disappointment of Liverpool losing two chances to win a trophy in a week, it should be remembered that Slot is essentially operating without any new players this season.

Giorgi Mamardashvili was signed alongside Chiesa but the goalkeeper remained at Valencia for the season whilst his fellow new signing has been nothing more than a squad player.

In truth, it would seem that a lot of Liverpool fans want to see Chiesa get a serious chance before the season ends, perhaps on the left wing.

No one will want Slot’s team to take their foot off the gas in the Premier League by any means, but a 12-point lead should leave some room for experimentation.

And after watching the Carabao Cup final, it’s hard not to argue that Liverpool’s chances of sustaining their winning would be helped by a bit more rotation.
