Newcastle won their first trophy for 70 years at the weekend as they beat Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

The Magpies were victorious on Sunday, and there are no prizes for guessing who came up with the decisive goal.

Indeed, once again, Alexander Isak was the difference maker at Wembley.

Isak has been incredible this season, and, inevitably, the Newcastle star’s performances has drawn the attention of some top teams.

Isak is a dream target for Arsenal, while Liverpool also want to sign Isak.

Speaking on BBC 606, Robbie Savage has been discussing Isak in the wake of this performance, and he’s responded when asked if he thinks the Newcastle ace is now the best striker in the world.

Alexander Isak is the best striker in the world

Savage was asked if he now considered Isak to be the best striker on the planet.

The pundit says that he does now consider the £60m forward to be the best all-round striker in the world.

“Is he the best striker in the world? Alexander Isak?” Savage said.

“All-round, you would say, probably yes. Best goal scorer. Is he the best goal scorer?” Savage said.

“Best all-round player, you would argue? His movement, and the way he leads the line, right now, yeah.”

Alexander Isak compared to other top strikers

Isak is a world-class talent, but to label him as the best striker in the world is a big call.

Of course, Isak is definitely in that conversation, but the numbers suggest he still has some way to go to be considered the best in the world.

Goals aren’t everything in football, but they are the key currency for any striker, and Isak still has a small way to go to be considered the very best in the world.

Isak is yet to win a Golden Boot in his career, and while he has so much to his game, ultimately, all strikers are judged on how often they put the ball in the net.

Kylian Mbappe is a Ballon d’Or contender at the moment, and right now, it would be hard to argue against the idea that the Frenchman is the best striker in the world – even if Isak does run him close.
