Robbie Fowler thinks Liverpool fans will easily get over the club’s losses in the Champions League and the Carabao Cup, as long as it gets over the line in the Premier League title race.
The Reds suffered two hugely disappointing losses prior to the international break, exiting the European Cup at the last-16 stage at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain before a meek Carabao Cup final loss to Newcastle.
Heading into February, the Reds remained in contention in all four competitions, but Fowler does not think there will be too much disappointment among Liverpool fans at ending the season with the league title and nothing else.
“The last week was not what we wanted but I think (Slot has) been a phenomenal manager for the club,” Fowler told the Press Association. “Every Liverpool fan will forgive losing the Champions League and League Cup as, other than a catastrophic development, Liverpool are going to win the Premier League and for a manager to come in and do that is a phenomenal achievement.
“To sit here and say Liverpool haven’t missed Jurgen is quite an unbelievable statement considering Jurgen took them to the very top table again.”
Despite Liverpoool’s recent loss of form, the club is still in a fantastic position to go on and win the league for only the second time since 1990.
Arsenal’s win over Chelsea on Sunday cut Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table to 12 points, but with just nine games of the league campaign remaining, it would take a huge collapse now for the title to not end up on Merseyside.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher thinks Liverpool’s players are starting to feel the effects of a relentless season but believes they will get over the line in the title race.
“Liverpool were poor vs PSG and Newcastle are a good Premier League team but they have wiped the floor with them,” Carragher said on Sky Sports after the loss to Newcastle. “Liverpool’s legs have run out of steam but luckily for them they have a big enough lead in the league.”
