And the No. 1 goalkeeper is….
It was thought that Bayern Munich loanee and VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nübel would get the nod against Italy during the German national team’s UEFA Nations League quarterfinal tie.
Those thoughts were wrong per a report from Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):
Oliver Baumann will start both games against Italy. Julian Nagelsmann has made his decision. Alexander Nübel is #2. Stefan Ortega #3 [@BILD] pic.twitter.com/ZGnrbWEN4c

Baumann is a solid professional with a longer track record of consistency and success than Nübel, who has had some up-and-down showings this season for VfB Stuttgart.
With Stefan Ortega as the No. 3, Germany is well-stocked at goalkeeper no matter who plays, but this does come as a mild shock with Baumann as the No. 1.
