Transfer notebook: Darwin Nunez wanted by Spanish giants, three Arsenal stars in new contract talks, Premier League rivals join Newcastle in goalkeeper chase

Liverpool are ready to consider offers for striker Darwin Nunez, talkSPORT understands.

Nunez’s arrival at Anfield from Benfica in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth £64million rising to £85m with add-ons was much heralded.

But the Uruguayan has struggled to hold down a place in Arne Slot’s team this season, making only a handful of Premier League starts and managing just seven goals in all competitions.

His misery was compounded by missing a crucial penalty in the shootout against Paris Saint-Germain last week.

The growing frustration over his wastefulness in front of goal means Liverpool are now willing to sanction a sale just three seasons after his big-money arrival.

Spanish side Atletico Madrid are among the clubs keen on offering Nunez the chance to relaunch his career away from Anfield.

In total, Nunez has 40 goals and 24 assists in 136 appearances for the Reds.

Arsenal to discuss futures of key trio

Bukayo Saka is not the only player Arsenal want to tie down to a new deal.

The Gunners are understood to have opened talks with ‘Star Boy’ Saka over extending his stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Like Saka, defensive king-pins Gabriel and William Saliba are about to enter the last two years of their contracts.

Incoming sporting director Andrea Berta will be tasked with persuading the duo to commit their figures to north London.

Saliba is seen as a priority with the Frenchman attracting interest from Real Madrid while Gabriel remains in the sights of bosses of the Saudi Pro League with Al Nassr plotting an audacious bid for him in the summer.

Saints consider Rosenior for next boss

Southampton are keeping tabs on former Hull boss Liam Rosenior as they plan for life in the Championship next season.

Despite wanting to stay, it is highly unlikely Saints keep Ivan Juric after the Croatian failed to halt their inevitable slide towards relegation.

As previously reported, Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl tops Saints’ list of potential Juric replacements.

But Rosenior also has admirers among the hierarchy at St Mary’s after piloting Strasbourg to seventh place in Ligue 1.

Transfer battle for young England star

West Ham are ready to rival Newcastle in the battle to sign Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

As talkSPORT reported last month, Newcastle are back on the trail of the £30m rated Trafford after failing to prise him away from Turf Moor last summer.

But the Magpies may no longer have a free run after West Ham sent scouts to watch the 22-year-old – recently called up into Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad – in action for the Championship promotion hopefuls.

West Ham are looking to bolster their goalkeeping ranks with Lukasz Fabianski about to turn 40.

Another potential option is England international Aaron Ramsdale, who is almost certain to leave Southampton.
