‘For sure’: Fabrizio Romano says what he knows about Liverpool and Julian Alvarez as Reds eye new striker now

Since leaving Manchester City to sign for Atletico Madrid, Julian Alvarez has cemented his reputation as one of the best strikers in the world.

The Argentine international has scored 23 goals in all competitions this campaign and has led Atleti’s title charge in La Liga.

But Julian Alvarez is now being linked with a move to Liverpool, despite having signed for Atletico Madrid just last summer.

TBR Football revealed that Liverpool are open to selling Darwin Nunez, demanding a fee of in excess of £60 million for his signature.

Liverpool could sell Diogo Jota as well in the summer and if they let of both the former Wolves forward and Nunez, they would need to sign a brand-new striker.

Alvarez would certainly prove to be an incredible signing for Liverpool if they can pull off a move for him.

The 25-year-old has proven his class in the Premier League, La Liga and at international level — having played a crucial role in Argentina’s World Cup triumph in 2022.

With the former Manchester City forward also having the experience of playing as a number 10 and out wide, Arne Slot would certainly appreciate his versatility.

Interestingly, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool were interested in bringing Alvarez to Anfield last summer, as he told GiveMeSport: “He was on their shortlist last summer, for sure.”

But Romano added that currently, the two-time Premier League winner is happy at Atletico Madrid and there is “nothing concrete” to report about his links to the Reds: “Now he’s happy at Atletico and he signed for them just 9 months ago, so nothing concrete at this stage. We will see.”

Strikers Liverpool could sign apart from Julian Alvarez

However, Liverpool’s hunt for a number nine is not solely restricted around trying to secure the Calchin-born attacker’s services.

Less than two weeks ago, TBR Football provided an exclusive revelation regarding Liverpool opening talks to sign Benjamin Sesko.

Liverpool are interested in signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town as well.

Hugo Ekitike is a Liverpool target as well.

As a result, Liverpool fans need not be worried if Alvarez chooses to stay at Atletico Madrid instead of making a prompt return to England.
